[Korea] Korean Valentin’s day - part2

Those introduced days in the first part are not the national holidays. So we celebrate and express one's gratitude or love to his or her family, friends and lover in their daily life. Likewise, let us know what other days are there in the second half of the year except Christmas and other national holidays.

July 5th - Chuotang day (추어탕 데이)

7-5 reads Chil-O(칠오) which sounds just like Korean health food, loach-tang(chuotang: 추어탕).

July 14th - Silver day (실버 데이)

Couples give silver made jewelry.

August 8th - Ramen day (라면 데이)

Number 8 sounds 'pal' in korean. Therefore 88 can be read as pal-pal, and this sounds the same as korean adverb '팔팔' means 'strongly' when it is used with boiling water. Korean instant ramen is cooked with strongly boiling water!

August 14th - Green day (그린 데이)

In the middle of deadly hot summer days in Korea, it is recommended to go visit mountains and enjoy green with lovers.

August 18th - Rice day (쌀 데이)

Number 8 and 18 can be written in chinese character as 八 and respectively. On the other hands, the chinese character for rice(쌀) is written as  where those 八 and  are overlaid all together.

September 9th - GuGu day (구구 데이)

GuGu means chicken sound. So we have chickens this day! In particular, Korean fired chicken with seasoning (양념치킨-Yangneum Chicken) is worth trying.

September 14th - Photo day (포토 데이)

Let us take beautiful photos with our close friends and lover.

September 17th - Love confession day (고백 데이)

The day after 100 days from September 17th is exactly Christmas. A new couple on this day will have 100 days anniversary on Christmas!

October 4th - Angel day (천사 데이)

Number 1004 reads 'cheon-sa' which sounds the same as angel(천사) in korean. Why don't we do become an angel and something good for the poor this day?!

October 14th - Wine day (와인 데이)

It is known that the Greek god of wine, Dionysus did kind of ritual on October 14th. In addition, it is the season for harvesting grapes for fresh wines.

November 11th - Pepero day (빼빼로 데이)

Pepero is a japanese chocolate stick snack. November 11th has four sticks representing four sticks of pepero. Couples give peperos each other like they give sweetie on Valentine's day.

November 14th - Movie day (영화 데이)

We go to theater and nobody knows why....?!

December 14th - Hug day (허그 데이)

Chilly weather makes people hug to share their warmth.

All these days are not something official and are quite commercial things so as even Koreans do not know well about it. However, as lovers always look for something dumb to do, sometimes we can also look for something to refresh ourselves in boring everyday.
